Adventure of the Seas - Stavanger, Norway, Part 7 - Stavanger Sail Away

We continue our walk.  By this time, we were very near the pier.  You could see the ship from this restaurant.  The MS Horizon had departed.

The Adventure of the Seas.

Another restaurant, just opposite the ship.

This row was full of restaurants and eateries.

We were walking back to the ship now.   The sky got very cloudy.

I think this ship was some type of exhibit? Not sure.

Salza Steakhouse and Bar.

Grilled Ribeye - 345 Kroners (or 62 USD)
NY Stripsteak - 365 Kroners (or 65 USD)

Time to get our tax refund.  The tax refund staff set up a table on board the ship, just after you get on.  There was a long queue, but it moved quite quickly.  You just needed to show her your tax refund slip that you get from the shops.  They didn't ask to see our goods either.  The staff just used our tax refund slip and gave us some cash back.  We got USD 13 back. Well, some cash was better than nothing.

Of course the tax refund company took a huge cut.  Based on my rough calculation, we got back 50% of the VAT paid, which means the company (in this case Global Blue) took the other 50%.

Sailing out.  What's that little hut on this islet?  Warning light maybe.

See the ferry?  It was following us out.

That was Stavanger.

I think these ships have something to do with the oil industry?

See, the ferry again.

Goodbye Stavanger, Norway.

See the following video of sailing away from Stavanger, Norway

This was our last stop on this wonderful Iceland and Norway cruise on board the Adventure of the Seas.   We had a great time.  So sad that the cruise would be ending soon.  We would have one more sea day before arriving at Southampton, UK for our disembarkation.

Adventure of the Seas - Stavanger, on board Rygertroll, Part 4

Part 4 - Pictures of the fjord cruise on board the Rygertroll

Here is the map showing our route, from Stavanger, up Lysefjorden and back.  We won't be going all the way, just past the Pulpit's Rock and we turn back.  The round trip would take about 3 hours.

We were still waiting for some last minute passengers.

And we sail.  On the way out, there were some more cruise ships in port!   What's this ship on the left of the picture?

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines.  Interesting.

She is the MS Braemar.  Completed in 1993, she is 24,344 GT and she is 195M long, almost the length of the Horizon.   When built, the ship was 19,000GT, but she was stretched to its current size in 2009.

On the way out of the harbour.

Goodbye, Braemar.

We sail further away.  You can see the Adventure of the Seas.  Really long and tall.

We head to the fjords.  Check out my videos for the ride.

This ferry (catamaran) can go fast, up to 30 knots.

Very calm waters.  Great.

Powerful engines.  I can't tell how fast we were sailing though.

Some certificate - Rygertroll.  I wonder, why troll?  I guess this is Norway.  Even their boats become trolls.

Going around some island.

The onboard cafe was now open.

Somme chocolates and biscuits for sale.  Nothing very much.

Drinks.  No hot food.

25 Kroner.

As the ferry was not that big, we could go into the nooks and corners.

Move on to part 5

Thanks for watching!

Head on to Part 4 of this blog post - more pictures.

Adventure of the Seas Day 12 - Stavanger Part 2

Stavanger Part 2 - we have arrived in Stavanger on a bright morning and we are off the ship.  Over here, we see a fjord cruise ferry sailing out.  The Horizon (Croisieres De France) ship was docked opposite the Adventure of the Seas.

Wonder what this hop-on hop-off bus was about.  We didn't stop to ask.

The Adventure of the Seas and the Horizon.

We were told to walk there, to board our fjord ferry.

Making our way around.  Not difficult.

This led to the city centre.  We would explore that later in the day.

We got here to get our tickets.  Rodne Fjord Cruises.  We were booked on the 10am sailing.  Quite a number of people bought tickets on the spot too.

A ferry came along and we weren't sure whether it was ours.  It was too early.

When we tried to board, the staff told us that this was the wrong ferry.  I think this ferry was operated by another company. Anyway, it wasn't 10am yet (only about 9:30am), so the timing was not correct either.

Since we had some time, we decided to walk around the place a bit.  The ferry would only come closer to 10am.  There were other people waiting in line to buy tickets.  Looks like it would be quite a popular sailing.

Across the road, we get to see the horizon from another angle.  The ship certainly didn't look that small.

See - Rodne Fjord Cruise signage.  Must be their office or something.

Side view of the Horizon.  Rather long.
Another view of the Horizon.

Our ferry arrives.  The name of the ferry was Rygertroll.   I googled to find out that she was pretty new - 2012.  200 GT.   A carbon catamaran with a maximum speed of 30 knots, 147 pax.  Length 24.5M, Width, 8.8M.

"Rygertroll is the first vessel equipped with the new carbon composite propulsion system, AZP35C from Rolls Royce. These forward facing thrusters significantly reduces noise and vibrations compared to conventional systems. The thrusters` low weight and high efficiency also contributes to further reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions."

The lie to board.  Everything was done in an orderly manner.

The seats.  But most passengers were up on the sun deck.

Seats with tables.  Very convenient to put our stuff.

Rather spacious seating, with very clean toilets.

Coffee machines, 15 NOK.  Remember to put in a cup first!!

What were behind the curtains?

This was on the sun deck.

Most passengers were waiting here for the ferry to sail.  They wanted to catch the best views!

Ferry was waiting for more passengers.

Were we leaving soon?  I hope!

In Part 3 - check out the cruise to lysefjord videos!
