Celebrity Silhouette Med Cruise

This post contains many pictures of the beautiful Celebrity Silhouette.

Celebrity Cruises is an upmarket cruise line owned by Royal Caribbean International. She is the upmarket sister company of Royal Caribbean.  We have sailed with Royal many times, however, this is our first time on Celebrity Cruises. We sailed on the Silhouette (18 Nov 2013 sailing) on a 13N cruise to the Med and Adriatic Seas.  From Singapore, we flew via Swiss to Zurich and then onward to Rome.  Here is a short video of the flight.

The Silhouette is the fourth ship of the very famous Solistice Class.  She is 122,000 GT and carries more than 2,800 passengers.   She is a large ship, but by no means the largest in the world.  That accolade goes to the Allure of the Seas.

Before the Silhouette, we had a free port tour during our private transfer from Rome city center to Civitavecchia.  There were two other cruise ships in Port, the Costa Serena and the Serenade of the Seas.

Finally, we got to the Celebrity Silhouette!!

Our private transfer brought us right to the ship.  This was a huge relief.  We saw other passengers at the port gates, struggling with luggage and trying to get onboard the Port bus shuttles - not a fun way to start a vacation!

For all my readers who have not been on a ship of this size before, check out this short clip to give you a sense of how big the ship is.

Waiting area before check-in.  We got here before check-in opened.  I recall they started checking in at about 11am.

This area got crowded.  Once the waiting area was full, they prevented more from coming in.  So other passengers had to line up outside this area.

Check-in was very smooth for us.  Here is the ship!

She is 319m or 1,047 feet long.

This picture is a historic one for me. My first meal in the Oceanview Cafe on a Celebrity cruise ship.

A selection of desserts at lunch.

The entrance to the Oceanview Cafe.

After lunch, it was time to explore the ship.  We started with the lawn area.

The small sign on the right said to refrain from wearing high heels on the lawn grass as well as not to use deck furniture on the lawn grass.

Nice grass.

The infamous alcoves.  You had to pay to use these.

I think they put out the cheese and fruits for show.

My kid trying to balance himself on that huge chair.

The Lawn Club Grill.  Any good?  I have no idea because we didn't dine there.

The other kid trying out the huge chair.

Real grass, and very nice.

Not sure what this meant.

Only two other cruise ships in port.  On a busy day, there could be 7 to 10!

These were ferries, quite large too.

A classical guitarist at the Sunset Bar.

A very empty pool.

The Sky Observation Lounge.  It was a very spacious lounge with great views.  The nightly Elite Social event was held here, along with other Captain's Club events.

The indoor Solarium.  This venue was very popular during this cruise.

On another day, I saw people swimming laps in this pool, early morning.  If it were crowded, it would be impossible to swim laps.

The fountain.  Very pretty.

They lay towels on the deck chairs for passengers' use.  Very nice.

This is the AquaSpa cafe.  These food offerings you see here are NOT complimentary.  However, the rest of the food is complimentary.

These are complimentary.

So are these - complimentary.

More healthy (complimentary) stuff.

Our cabin, Concierge Class.

Green apples and sparkling wine waiting for us.

Main Dining Room from Level 3.  Level 4 (Select Dining) is above.

The Silhouette theatre.

Shops, very upmarket.

Photo gallery.

We were still in port.  Shops cannot open.

This is the Molecular Bar. You can't miss it.

Nice birds!

Cafe al Bacio - a rather popular place.  I see many passengers having their coffees here.

The desserts at Cafe al Bacio.  These are complimentary.  You don't need to buy a coffee to have these.

Looking down into the atrium.

That is Bistro on Five.  Plenty of crepes.

Michel's Pub - plenty of craft beers.

This art mural is very beautiful.  Deck 5 Aft.

Where was this?  Tuscan Grille!  It was also our muster station.

Two other cruise ships in port that day.

Cool huh.

The library.

Canapes.

Our awesome balcony.

The complimentary room-service breakfast offerings were better than Royal.  For example, you could get fried eggs over easy on Celebrity, but on Royal, Room Service was only scrambled eggs. My kids enjoyed room service breakfast on many port days.   Delivery was always prompt. I ticked off 7:00 to 7:30am and it would arrived before 7:05am.

Captain's Club Elite Coupons. The laundry perks are fantastic, especially the 'Complimentary Wash, Dry, Fold for up to 30 items'.  There is no equivalent on Royal.  The Internet perk is good too - 90 minutes.  However, unlike Royal, there isn't the 2 free photos per Diamond member.

At least it was bright and cheery for a few days.

One round the walking track was 200M.  You had to do 5 rounds to cover 1KM.

Now that the sun is out, we could go walking around the sun deck to get some exercise!

One of the few days where we had some decent sun.  You can see that the outdoor pool was never very crowded.  Even with the sun, it was still rather chilly.

Complimentary food offerings at the Mast Grill.  Basically burgers & hot dogs.

Glad to see passengers enjoying some outdoor sun.

Kids messing around in our (extended) balcony.

A big battle was going on, even as we cruised happily.

Full house!  Production showtime.

Desserts at Cafe Al Bacio on a different day.

Deck 5 plan.
