Singapore Garden City - Forest Walk, Canopy Walk, Henderson Waves, Botanic Gardens

To the outsider or foreigner who knows little about Singapore, he may have heard that Singapore is an economically vibrant city, but what is less well known is that Singapore is also a Garden City. We are a beautiful city, with many gardens, parks and nature reserves. In my free time, I have made some videos of some of these awesome park connectors and unique aspects of our Garden City. Feel free to share this blog link and video links with your friends, especially those who are not familiar with Singapore!

Henderson Waves This is the tallest pedestrian foot bridge in Singapore. The design is really unique and the architecture is beautiful. There is a different feeling when you come in the night, versus the day. This video shows you the Henderson Waves during a bright and sunny day.

Forest Walk Near the Henderson Waves, you can find the Forest Walk which will bring you down to Alexandra Road. They have built a metal zig-zag bridge, right through a secondary tropical forest. You are high up in nature, and you can see the trees up close. Amazing.

Canopy Walk As the name implies, in this walk, you are high up in the Canopy of a rain forest. Very interesting. Feels like I was flying!

Botanic Gardens Now a UNESCO Heritage site, the Gardens have a long history. Within the Gardens, there is the National Orchid Garden and within that a VIP Orchid Garden. All worth a visit.

Singapore Airlines SQ 317 London to Singapore Upper Deck Economy SG50 Plane

This review is just for one flight - London Heathrow to Singapore Changi on SQ 317, in Upper Deck Economy. This was the end of our holiday in Europe. We were thrilled to be able to ride on this special Airbus A380 painted in SG50 livery. SQ has only 2 planes in her A380 fleet that are painted this way and it was quite fortuitous for us to ride in one, before they removed the SG50 livery.

What is SG50? This is the short form for Singapore 50. In 1965, we became an independent nation and in 2015, we celebrated our 50th birthday on 9th August. It was quite a blast. On a sadder note, our founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew passed away in March this year, which meant he never lived to witness our National Day Parade 2015. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

His passing had a profound effect on many Singaporeans, especially the younger generation who had grown up in relative affluence, and never knew how tough life was back in the 60s and 70s. SG50 was also a good time to remind ourselves that our existence as a sovereign, independent nation cannot be taken for granted. Will there be SG100? Only God knows. Meanwhile, we cherish what we have, and contribute to make things even better. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

As our SG50 year draws to a close, it was especially poignant for me and my family to be able to ride this special SG50 Airbus A380 back home, after a wonderful holiday in London and Europe. Imagine, if not for Lee Kuan Yew, would I be here writing this review today? Probably not. Let me proceed with the flight review. I made two videos, part 1 and 2.

In the first video, I show you the boarding, and getting seated.

In the second part of the flight review, I show you the meals. It was a day flight, so it was rather difficult to get much sleep.

Singapore Airlines SQ 306 Singapore to London in Economy Class

We fly on Singapore Airlines flight SQ 306 from Singapore to London in early December. This is the first part of the flight review.  The aircraft was a Boeing 777-300ER carrying the new products, including the new Premium Economy cabin.  We were in the Economy cabin.  Check out part 1 of the video below, which includes boarding and the first meal service of supper.

In part 2, video below, I show you the breakfast - the hot item was awesome.

Meng's Teochew Bak Chor Mee at Jurong GEM Food Court

I tried Meng's Teochew Bak Chor Mee (Pork Noodles) at the GEM foodcourt in Jurong East. Pretty good. $5 per serving. It was a large serving and definitely filled me up. The taste was strong. Apparently, they use 18 types of sauces. The noodles also come with a soft-boiled egg. Nice.

Cruise Ship Longest Single Body water slide at sea MSC Preziosa

MSC Preziosa cruise ship water slide. I don't usually take water slides but since I was on a cruise, and my kids wanted to do this, why not?

This was my water slide experience on the MSC Preziosa on a recent cruise out of Genoa. It was an awesome cruise (we stayed in the Yacht Club) and do check out my other upcoming videos on the cruise experience. But first, this water slide must be one of the highlights of the cruise. What a blast! (Pardon the screaming)

MSC claims this water slide (called Vertigo) to be the longest single-rider boy water slide at sea. At 394 feet long and 42 feet high, Vertigo includes a 30 foot transparent stretch over the side of the ship.

Singapore Airlines SQ 324 to Amsterdam in Economy

I fly on SQ 324 from Singapore Changi to Amsterdam Schipol.

Boarding was on time, and smooth. We settled into our seats quickly. Here is the hot towel which was handed out. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Reading through the in-flight magazine and I noticed this article. Coincidentally, Amsterdam will be the first destination for the new SQ Airbus A350, expected to begin by April 2016. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Menus were handed out. A very attractive design. Making me hungry! Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This was my main meal. I chose the Peranakan option - Pandan coconut rice with spicy chicken. Tasted very good, well, I'm biased as I like Peranakan food. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The plane felt rather cold. Thankfully I was well prepared, with my jacket and the blanket helped. I managed to get some sleep and soon it was time for breakfast. I chose the Asian noodle option for breakfast. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Here is a video of my experience.

Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 Shopping and the new Long Bar by Raffles

We fly from Singapore to Amsterdam on Singapore Airlines. But before the flight, check out the renovated Terminal 3, where they have done some work to expand the shopping area upwards. The usage of double volume space, I think.

Here is a store that has expanded upwards.

There is a Zara, which is now double storey. Pretty neat yeah.

Here is a video I made as I walked around the place. In the video, I check out the rest areas, and also enter the Zara store.

In this video, I check out the Singapore Food Street, also in Terminal 3. Plenty of local food choices, if you are hungry. Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak, Beef Noodles, all there. Reasonably priced. If all this doesn't suit you, there is a Burger King at the end of the food street. Understandably, the Burger King was pretty crowded.

As I checked out the shops, I went into DFS, went upstairs, and chanced upon this! Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Very interesting. Wonder how much they charged for drinks. Check out the menu. It says the drinks were free! (Tasting portion) Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The decor was pretty cool. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Now check out this video I made of the Long Bar, enjoying my Singapore Sling!

This was my drink - the Singapore Sling! Image and video hosting by TinyPic
