Workfare - Biblically sound - Leviticus 19: 9-10

Quote from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible

Leviticus 19:9-10

And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest.

And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger : I am the Lord your God.

-------------------------------------------------------
Do not take everything.

Leave some, for the poor and the stranger.Yet, do not just give blindly and freely to the poor and the stranger.  (aka European Welfare state) Read Ruth.

Rather, create work for them.  Allow diligent work.  As the Lord has commanded, we must all work otherwise we do not eat.  We cannot be slothful.

Notice why we should leave some for the poor and stranger?  "I am the Lord your God."  It is akin to an instruction from God!

Thought-provoking indeed.

Singapore's workfare scheme is biblically sound & I fully support it.
