Naples. Italy Part 2 - Sorrento

Naples - Sorrento

After Positano (Amalfi Coast), our next stop was Sorrento, a small town in Campania, Southern Italy.    The Amalfi coast drive (connecting Sorrento and Amalfi) is a narrow road that threads along the high cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea.  Travelling along this winding road made all of us a little car sick.  So it was time to take a break and get some food.

We liked Sorrento.  It was an interesting town and many shops to look at.  We didn't have much time here so it was just a glimpse we got.

Our driver dropped us near the Christmas tree above, just outside this pasta/olive oil shop below.

We had spent some time on the van and the roads were rather winding.  One of my kids was feeling car-sick.  So we quickly went to look for a cafe, to drink some hot chocolate and coffee.  We found this quaint Italian cafe.

They stuck photos and news articles all the way to the ceiling.  I guess this place has lots of history?

Alcohol was available but we didn't get any.

The streets were fun to walk.  Most shops were opened even though this was low season.

Most of the stuff were not expensive.  But we did not have much time to shop.

It is quite amazing, how the car squeezes through.

Lunch-time!!  Our driver recommended restaurant called La Basilica.

To get to the restaurant, you had to walk along this narrow path from the square (where the Christmas tree was).


We found these stickers on the window.  You can read them for yourself.


The restaurant opened at noon.  It was rather empty.  However, we decided to have our lunch here, since it was recommended.

Olive oil and balsamic vinegar - a wonderful dip for the bread.   We were given generous servings.

We only ordered two portions of food (we don't eat much).  The restaurant was very nice, they gave us these complimentary starters.  Some fish.

This was my seafood pasta.  I recall it was 15 Euros.

This was a standard spaghetti bolognaise.  (Food for the kids)

It was awesomely delicious, especially with a glass of house white.

Plenty of wine.

This bread was very nice.  Freshly baked and perfect with the olive oil and basalmic vinegar. Reminds me a bit of 'Roti Prata' from Singapore.

After a wonderful lunch, it was time to head back to the Christmas Tree to wait for our pick-up.

There was a bridge nearby and I took these photos from the bridge.  Look at the roads heading down to the beach (and port).
